I had install windows vista in my PC one month ago. The most benefit that came from vista is directx 10 for playing game(just for me, i don't know is other had a different opinion
)I'm using HD4670 512Mb and my rig is : intel core2duo e7300 Memory 2gig ddr2 single channel 160 gig HDD 19 " monitor max res 1320*768 when i'm using direct x 9 on xp i can't play DMC4 with an stabil 40 FPS but after change to vista and using directx10 it's boost the fps for 10-15 average per second? ![]() But with may 2gig ram ddr2 single channel there is something pulldown from xp to vista, it was when i'm using XP it's only take a couple seconds but now it going to 30 seconds-45 seconds to shutdown and to starting windows... and i don't know another benefit from going to vista except about directx 10... so if anyone knew or want to tell me about vista or xp be my guest. |

I you are finding it a bit slow, you could disable some of the flashy features which will give a boost to performance.
I'm not a massive fan of Vista and have recently upgraded to Windows 7 RC.

Am I missing something here? There is no such thing as "a Vista" or "a XP". The problems you are having seem isolated because I've used XP for about 5 years now and not had many problems (admittedly there have been a few bugs that slowed me down but nothing that couldn't be fixed). The system itself is fine and the FPS increase you got is probably from using a newly formatted hard drive.

![]() And uh...Mac doesn't need anti-virus. Just anti phishing. It's not major problem, (again) it's good actually. And you can use vmware to run XP or Vista inside your Mac OS X, check it out: Picture_2_3.png - ImageHost.org

this is how i divide my space
drice c 40 gig : only windows and another programs drive d 120 gig : only for games.. drive e 20 gig : its another hdd still IDE plug from my old PC ( inside my cpu but the power cable is unplug coz its to damn noisy when starting loading...) installing vista in drive c, only formatted drive c so i do not think that formatted hard drive has a great effect, afterall when i'm using direct x10 in vista for playing dmc 4 i got fps 70 constant only flutuative between 67-75 but when im using direct x 9 my HD 4670 only having the highest fps is 65 but its very fluktuative the range of my fps is 29-65 so the average is 40 fps i hate when i'm playing the game is stop a maybe 2 milisecond and then moving again with normal speed.. its annoy me (dont know about u feel..) i thought one of the benefit using vista is u had a directx 10. so it can pull out my HD 4670 inner strength hehe yeah but i think windows xp sp 2 is a lot better than vista, all vista can do is make my pc became slower and slower except for playing game(it's make my graphic card faster) hahahahah.. peace, luv u all |

Windows Vista is full of crap. You cannot install any pirated software, you cannot watch any pirated movies... a hell lot of problems. I am so far unable to find a single plus point for Windows Vista. For the nest 3-4 years at least, I will be sticking with my XP.

Can't find a plus point? It looks better. There is one. I'm not defending it as an operating system, it has it's faults and lots of them. Stopping scum from stealing from film and software companies is a good thing. How about you go and pay for what you use. Not sponging off honest people! |

Businesses are there to make a profit. Film is an industry with it's many businesses underneath. Millions of dollars are spent on creating films. So, say it cost $10 million to make the film and they sell it at your "reasonable" price, lets say $5 and they also have to production cost. They sell 2 million copies. They have made a loss. If half the people didn't steal it in the first place. They could charge a more reasonable price.

No, vista is not better then XP. And why? Because vista is backwards technology.
Everything else in the world gets faster and better as time goes on. Cars get better gas milage, metals get lighter and stronger. Except microsoft operating systems. They get bigger and slower. I would not trade my truck in on one that gets 1/2 the gas milage then the one I have right now. Why would I trade XP in on vista and have a computer that runs slower? The very thought of it defies logic. |
