I use the system Restore function quite a bit,
I have used my PC for 5 years+ without protection. It all depends what you download and where you download from. When you use the system restore function to remove some viruses, Make sure you delete what you recently downloaded that might have given the virus. After that, clear your history, cookies, ect ect and then do the system restore. A System Restore will NOT delete programs you recently Installed. Lets say I Installed Diablo 2 today, then tomorrow I Get a virus, I can select the Diablo 2 Install date as my restore point to go there. You can also CREATE a restore point by selecting the Create a restore point bubble when doing a system restore. I do this before downloading any major programs, and Installing things I need. Hope my 10 cents worth help you guys out =] |

It depends on what kind of trojan you get accually,
I just got finished doing a system restore on a pc that had 7 trojan viruses on It, they knocked out restore points and so much mroe damage. All you have to do Is just use a little friend I call TrendMicro. I downloaded the trial on my friends pc for TrendMicro, and It took away 6 out of the 7, and then i manually killed the last one (was not accually a "trojan" but close to It I guess?) and then restore. Now the computer Is being used again just fine with no problems =] But yea, some of the higher better trojans can really screw with someone. but If you know your way around a pc like I do, Its not too much of a big deal. My dad, Mom,brother and me all have a combined 83 years of computer and Internet experience. But yes advance trojans can do that and worse. |

I know System Restore can restore your PC to the condition when there is no virus, but it's the case that you have System Checkpoint saved. In the past, i want to use this feature but too bad i'm have no checkpoint. Now i know it and will make checkpoint.
But if virus can be deleted by an antivirus, i will prefer AV. |

Sometimes hitting F8 isn't enough to fix a really damaged PC. What really sucks is when your computer is so damaged you can't even recover files off of it, that is until you get Linux
